Staff Wellbeing Event
On Tuesday 9th May after school, all staff took part in an activity that represented a protected characteristic they felt they would like to know a little more about.
The event was hosted by the personal development team who arranged for outside speakers as well as volunteers from the staff to present a workshop.
We were fortunate enough to have an excellent guest speaker from the community who is Ukranian talk about traditions and cultures from her home country. Staff who attended this workshop described it as: "'very moving and informative, a real insight into a culture I knew very little about".
Representatives from 'One to One Support Services' from Chesterfield provided an introduction to sign language. Staff who attended this workshop said it was "fun, engaging and informative."
Author, Lisa Williamson, discussed the use of language when talking about LGBTQ+ matters/experiences. Lisa discussed her involvement with members of the Trans community, and what she found the experience of younger Trans people in school to be like. Staff agreed that this was an invaluable experience.
Yoga was a popular activity, again presented by an external provider. Staff said they found the session "relaxing and invigorating".
Staff who volunteered from to deliver workshops taught their colleagues Taiko Drums, Latin Dancing and Thai Cooking. These were well attended, enjoyed and something different to spend time with colleagues.
Mrs S. Elliott, Leader of Personal Development, said: "The event would not have been able to take place without the support from staff to make it successful. Thank you to everyone who took part."
