Tupton Hall School Celebrates Brilliant Club Graduates Across Key Stage 4 and 5

Tupton Hall School is proud to celebrate 11 Year 10/11 students and 9 Sixth Formers who have successfully graduated from the prestigious Scholars Programme — a unique university access initiative run by the education charity The Brilliant Club.

All participating students produced challenging, university-style assignments exploring fascinating and diverse topics, including:

  • “What is Myth? The Soldier’s Horse in the Great War as a Case Study”
  • “To what extent do you agree that psychological skills training techniques are effective for all elite athletes?”

Over the course of seven tutorials, students worked closely with PhD researchers who delivered specialist subject seminars and one-to-one guidance. They were encouraged to think critically, develop independent study habits, and gain experience of university-style learning. Many students went above and beyond, willingly giving up their own time for bespoke sessions with their tutors.

For many of the Year 10 and 11 students, the programme aligned perfectly with their personal aspirations — particularly a number of high-achieving female rugby players, swimmers, athletes, and talented footballers who balance impressive sporting commitments alongside their studies.

The Sixth Form cohort, all in Year 12, embraced the challenge at the start of their A Level journey. Their final dissertations received outstanding feedback, showcasing skills that will serve them well as they progress toward competitive university pathways.

Throughout the autumn term, all students completed regular assessments, reflected on their learning, and balanced the demanding schedule alongside lessons and revision. Their final submissions were marked to university standards — a remarkable achievement at this stage in their education.

The Scholars Programme, delivered by UK-wide charity The Brilliant Club, supports young people to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to progress to leading universities. By connecting students with PhD researchers, it opens doors to innovative academic topics they may not otherwise encounter, encouraging curiosity, ambition, and advanced critical thinking.

The programme concluded with a special graduation event at the University of Sheffield — a celebration of student achievement and aspiration.

Students explored the campus, including the learning centres, resource hubs and the student union building. They also enjoyed insightful discussions with student ambassadors from a wide range of Higher Education subjects, who shared their experiences and answered questions.

Ava H and Isabelle D delivered a confident and reflective speech about their Brilliant Club journey, describing it as challenging, rewarding, and ultimately incredibly worthwhile. Later in the ceremony, Jeanie C represented Tupton Hall School as the group spokesperson, delivering a passionate and well-received address.

Miss Crofts commented:

The graduation helped with future planning too, with a campus tour of Sheffield University and the chance to hear real experiences from student ambassadors. It was a great opportunity for our students to ask questions, explore the campus and think ahead.

Mr Jenkins added:

The students engaged brilliantly throughout the celebration day, showing maturity and enthusiasm. The graduation ceremony was a fitting end to the programme and it was wonderful to see our students recognised on stage for their achievements.

Anne-Marie Canning MBE, CEO of The Brilliant Club, also congratulated the students:

Congratulations to these outstanding students as they graduate from The Scholars Programme. Completing their final assignments was no doubt challenging, but it has shown that they have a passion for learning and the knowledge to produce university-level work already. I hope they use these new skills throughout their education and continue their fantastic work.

Tupton Hall School celebrates every student involved — their dedication, academic growth, and ambition have been truly inspiring.
