Year 9s Visit Innova House

Our Year 9 students recently enjoyed a truly eye-opening visit to Innova House in Mansfield, where they gained a valuable insight into the world of health and social care.

Innova House provides specialist residential care and support for adults with autism, learning disabilities, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and other complex needs, helping individuals develop independence and achieve their full potential.

During our visit, Laura gave the students a tour of several parts of Innova House and explained the wide range of roles and responsibilities involved in delivering high-quality care. Students met and interacted with residents, gaining first-hand experience of the positive relationships that exist between staff and those they support.

A particular highlight was where the students got involved with helping to prepare for the birthday celebration of one of the residents, an ex-Marine, who was delighted by his birthday surprise. Witnessing the genuine care, compassion, and dedication shown by the staff was truly inspiring.

We were especially proud of Jamil, who amazed everyone by communicating with one of the residents using British Sign Language (BSL). His conversation brought huge smiles to both the resident and staff, who explained just how valuable BSL skills are within the care sector.

The visit had a real impact on our students. Heath said he was surprised by the many fantastic ways residents are supported. Jamil reflected that the experience "changed my idea of what a care home is" and admired the strong relationships between carers and residents. Jake said the visit opened his eyes to the wide range of careers involved, from maintenance and finance to different areas of care, and was amazed by how helpful everyone was.

A huge thank you to Laura and the entire team at Innova House for providing such a warm welcome and an unforgettable learning experience.
